New site and a new Clinic Director – Chris Gibson
Lets take a moment to get to know our Cypress Clinic Director, Chris Gibson:
When did you start with Apara?
June 2021
Where are you from?
Connecticut, I have also lived in New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania before moving to Texas. I moved to Austin, Texas in 2015 and moved to the Houston area in 2021.
Where did you go to school?
I went to American University for my undergraduate degree in Psychology, then I attended Lehigh University for my master’s in counseling and human services. To complete my education, I attended Southern Connecticut University for my Behavior Analyst Certificate.
Tell me about your family (married?, children?, pets?):
My wife and daughter keep me quite busy when I am not at work. We don’t have any official pets, but my daughter might claim the frogs in our backyard.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to learn new things, and always looking for something else to learn. I also enjoy playing chess, video games, and creating graphic media.
How long have you been in the field of ABA?
I have been in the ABA field for 13 years.
How long have you been a BCBA/BCaBA?
I have been a BCBA for 6 years.
How did you get started in ABA?
In one of my undergraduate courses, we had someone come in and show us ABA therapy. I felt a strong calling and found a job at a school as a behavior technician right after I graduated.
What kind of experiences have you had in ABA?
I have worked in many different settings and different types of clients. I have experience in schools, camps, clinic, community, and in-home therapy services. I have worked with clients as early as two to those in community college.
Why do you enjoy working in ABA?
I love seeing the progress in my clients. I love teaching and supporting families in their journey with ABA. I really do enjoy helping people and encouraging them to become the best version of themselves. ABA allows me to do that as career and I am grateful that I found it.
What made you choose Apara?
To make a long story short, I was moving to be closer to our family. During my interview process with Apara I knew this was the right company for me. I have worked for a lot of different companies before, some had well over 200 total centers to single center providers. I knew based on the interview that Apara cared about the clients, the staff, had good ethics, and sounded like a company that I could help reach as many clients as possible.
