Bendwood Park
12700 Kimberley Ln, Houston, TX 77024

Bendwood Park is a huge city park with two playgrounds, picnic spots, a walking trail, a baseball field, tennis courts, and ample green space. The playgrounds have a cool explorer theme, a jeep play structure, and some hidden codes that kids can break. The playgrounds are away from the street but visible from the rest of the park. There are plenty of benches, trash cans, and tables in case you’d like a picnic and a cute little gazebo! In addition, there are plenty of trees for the opportunity to hide from the sun and several water fountains. 

 

Terry Hershey Park
15200 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77079

Located along the banks of Buffalo Bayou and South Mayde Creek, the park spans 500 acres and features some of Texas’s nicest on and off-road bike trails. In addition, there is a walk-in sundial where your shadow will tell you the time when you stand on the appropriate stone (and if the sun is shining).

 

Nottingham Park

Touted as a “Kid Fit Park,” one of Nottingham Park’s most impressive features is the splash park – a terrific water play area for kids of all ages and one of the largest in Houston. The play area is completely fenced with two super deluxe play structures, a splash pad, and a shaded seating area. In addition, there is a toddler area with small tunnels, toadstools, and a clubhouse. The big site has many twists and turns, tunnels, monkey bars, ladders, and much more.

 

Hedwig Park
930 Corbindale Rd, Houston, TX 77024

Hedwig is an excellent park for a full-on park day or just a quick kill-twenty-minute stop. The park is shaded, so for summer, it is great (also, having the air-conditioned library next door to escape to is nice). It has multiple play structures and swings appropriate to all age groups, covered picnic tables with electricity, and a large area.

 

Edith L Moore Nature Sanctuary
440 Wilchester Blvd, Houston, TX 77079

Sometimes a walk in nature is all you need, and there’s no better place to do that than Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary. Their sanctuary offers walking trails, birding (including a live-streaming bird camera), educational programs, and a unique look into the neighborhood’s history. Plus, it’s free!

Frolic’s Castle

Frolic’s Castle is the world’s largest indoor soft play area in a shopping center and fully ADA-accessible with a three-level, medieval castle with a drawbridge and catapult surrounded by an Enchanted Forest, complete with wizards, knights, and fire-breathing dragons.
